The John V. Dingell Veterans Affairs Medical Center’s Endoscopy Unit is recognized for its commitment to patient safety and quality. The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) awarded the recognition through its Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program in March 2024. ASGE is one of the country’s leading gastrointestinal medical societies.

More than 600 endoscopy units nationwide have received the same recognition since 2009. Recipients of the recognition have met rigorous judging criteria set by ASGE, such as the adoption of policies that focus on a continuing assessment of performance related to key quality indicators, commitment to an ongoing competence development of their staff, and the establishment of infrastructure and the assignment of personnel dedicated to infection control and prevention.

In a statement, John V. Dingell, VA Medical Center Gastroenterology Section chief Dr. Fadi Antaki, expressed his gratitude to ASGE for being recognized for its “efforts to enhance quality and safety in [our] endoscopy unit.” The recognition demonstrates the endoscopy unit’s “dedication to delivering high-quality patient care,” Dr. Antaki added.
